Newport Surf

Blessed by two great surf beaches within the 2106 area, if there’s a wave to be had, Newport will have one.

Bungan Beach to the south is a secluded beach that works well in all sorts of swells.  It picks up more south swell than Newport and at right at the south end at Mona Vale headland, ‘Rockpools’ can handle up to about 8 foot.  A great beachbreak to score relatively uncrowded waves.

Newport beach is known for ‘the Peak’ which is a break towards the north of the beach, opposite a timber viewing platform.  Works in multiple swell directions when wave sizes are in the small-medium range.  Further up, breaking of South Bilgola headland is ‘the Cove’ which works in a NE swell but is rarely epic.  At the south end of the beach, ‘The Pool’ can be a classic on big south swell days and fares reltaively well in cross/shore S-SW winds.  Also down this end is ‘Crosswaves’ which  is a shallow reef break working in NE swells.
